An aluminium cleaner for the high alkaline pH range

Neutral and Enzymatic based detergents have become the choice of many department managers for on simple reason; they do not damage instruments or aluminium containers, but are they effective cleaning agents for today's decontamination issues?

Certain proteases (enzymes) can indeed remove proteins from surfaces, but unfortunately, infective prion proteins can resist attack by most proteases, also it was for this reason that the World Health Organisation recommended the use of NaOH (sodium hydroxide) followed by the steam sterilization to deal with the problem.

Alkaline hydrolysis leads to the breakage of ester and amide bonds in proteins. Prion protein contamination of surgical instruments poses a particularly difficult problem when these are made of aluminium since the aluminium oxide protective film present in anodised aluminium is only normally stable between pH4 and pH9.

 Current Research

Serchem has developed an alkaline detergent range specifically for use in washer disinfector machines and sink areas, which because of its unusual composition has been able to clean mixed batches of steel and aluminium instruments between pH9 and Ph14 repeatedly without damaging their functionality.

Serchem has provided an ideal solution to the modern day dilemma. You can use a high pH, alkaline detergent with its positive effects on proteins without incurring the negative effects. Benefit from a detergent range that can perform the following tasks.

  1. It is effective in all water conditions
  2. It can be traced throughout the washing process
  3. It has a pH of 14 in neat solution, 10.5 in its diluted state
  4. It is in a liquid form
  5. It is perfectly safe on all material including aluminium and anodised aluminium.
  6. Suitable for both washer disinfectors and sink areas in foaming an non-foaming solutions
  7. Carries an irritant classification, not a corrosive classification
